  • A learning experience – Iheadphones the perfect ecommerce project

Posted by Dave Wiltshire in web design on the 24th of July 2009

As web designers we rarely get the opportunity to be involved with companies that are already number one for their target search term in an ultra competitive market. We have just undertaken a redesign for the Iheadphones website who are looking to retain their number one position with improved web design with better stock management capability (Magento web design) and search engine performance.

The level of SEO built into this site in terms of content conversion and url architecture has pushed us further than we have gone before and really further than we have ever seen online before which is a great opportunity for a web designer. We spend a lot of time researching techniques that will improve performance for our client sites significantly and even incrementally as we know that every inch counts in life. When you add up all those inches it can make the difference between winning and losing!

Here is the initial web design.

  • Evolution of the web designer

Posted by Dave Wiltshire in web design on the 22nd of July 2009

As a web designer nothing gives me more pleasure than redesigning sites that we created years and years ago, it feels like housekeeping!  I started my life as a designer on a placement for another company, and one of my first ever web designs was for a company called JMC Recycling. Obviously five years ago web design style and software was a world way from where it is now.

We have been given the opportunity to revisit the site and the opportunity to show you visually where we were and where we are now web design wise.

Here is the NEW web design.

Here is the OLD web design.

You may laugh… but this design was considered contemporary at the time and has serviced the company for five or so years… but now time to overhaul and design for todays market. The new site will be built using WordPress software to allow simple content management, great image gallery functionality and the ability to blog and market effectively through the site.

To keep up with current web trend and software we would recommend revisiting your web design regularly to ensure that it is always current and engaging for the user as it benefits business.

  • Web Design – Pitchwell

Posted by Dave Wiltshire in web design on the 22nd of July 2009

We have designed a targeted entry page to plug into the existing web site for Pitchwell Online. The web design is Video and sales focused to maximise search engine traffic and conversion through design and SEO implementation. The page and video platform is designed to accompany TV commercials and is flexible to suit a range of product variation. The transparencies and graphical background can be easily changed with the subject matter.

I’m really proud of this one and I love all sites that integrate strong well produced Video.

  • Creative Web Design For The Big Africa Cycle.

Posted by Dave Wiltshire in web design on the 16th of July 2009

We are sponsoring Pete Gostello who is mad enough to want to cycle from the UK and all the way across Africa. The Journey is scheduled to take one year but his last one was planned for one… and it ended up taking him three. I guess you can’t rush these things! As well as braving some of the toughest climates and other human related dangers on the way, Pete is raising money for a great cause – the charity Against Malaria. We are going to help drive interest and help Pete to raise money the best way we can…. though donating a web design and helping him in the search engines.

  • One poster design one hour please…

Posted by Dave Wiltshire in graphic design on the 8th of July 2009

We are forever getting urgent calls for design to meet print runs and like to fulfill, even if it means working into the small hours. Today we had that call from Ich Mowatt, local audio post and music specialist, MD of Sounding Post and general all round good guy. Ich is hosting an event coming soon to Nottingham and needed to meet print today with posters for an event promoting his business, and Giltbrook Studios.

The event is for networking and promotion of local bands and talent and will be a great bash. If you are a musician there are lots of fantastic professional recording prizes for audio and video that could help you get your music out there.

Contact Ich directly to find out more…

  • New MySpace Mail Competes With Leading Webmail Services

Posted by Karen May in web industry news on the 31st of July 2009

MySpace is now offering its 130 millions users with a webmail service.  The social networking site hopes to rival with popular webmail services like Gmail and Yahoo Mail.

Existing MySpace users can a create a MySpace Mail account with their current user name, using a myspace.com domain name.  They can now upload photos from their profile to email, and send audio and video attachments. Unlike other webmails, MySpace Mail offers unlimited storage.

MySpace has been battling to stay afloat in a very competitive market, and launching a webmail may just do the trick. The site has recently made key web design changes to best compete with leading networking site Facebook. It has retrenched nearly 30 percent of  its domestic workforce and a significant number of its global staff was also axed.  The job cuts were part of MySpace’s move to keep a stable financial stature amidst recession.

MySpace topped the social media market back in 2006, but was overtaken by Facebook in 2008.  The site has been making major tweaks on its homepage and has added several features to tussle with other much hyped social networking sites.  Creating a webmail is one thing that sets it apart from its competitors, and this might just be the break MySpace has long been waiting.

  • Hulu Traffic Trumps That of Networks

Posted by Karen May in web industry news on the 31st of July 2009

For the first time in its history, Hulu has surpassed NBC, Fox, and ABC website’s traffic. the data was reported by Compete’s Seth Madison.

Hulu is a video streaming website of TV shows and movies from popular networks NBC, Fox, ABC, among others.  The site has gained prominence shortly after it was launched.  Although it has not achieved YouTube’s success as of yet, the site is slowly climbing the race and has shown strong growth over the past few months.

Hulu’s video views have significantly increased, and its market share and its market share is gradually showing good numbers. Its skyrocketing traffic is a product of effective SEO techniques and relevant web content.  It still got a long way before reaching YouTube’s spot in the industry, but is apparently racking up a huge edge with good branding design and ad strategy.
