Facebook deals
Posted by Dave Wiltshire on February, 1st 2011The social networking site that is Facebook was originally launched as a, well social networking website, used as a means of communication. However, six years and 600 million fans on and this social networking site plays host to millions of pounds worth of advertising revenue.
Not only do companies advertise down the right hand side of the site, but now you can get specialised ‘Facebook deals’ just for ‘checking in’ via Facebook place apps to shops, cafes and other businesses. In return for using this app on your Smartphone, you can get deals on a number of products including 50% off a cup of coffee, extra dishes at your favourite restaurant or even free gifts. Wow!
The whole point of this venture is to get businesses involved with their customers. This may be due to the fact that many big-brand websites now have more fans on Facebook than they [...]
Amazon: Kindle Ebooks Outsell Paperbacks Online
Posted by Dave Wiltshire on January, 28th 2011Now this one came as a big surprise to me. If history has taught us anything it’s that paperback books really are priceless. I mean there are the original Shakespeare that are worth a staggering amount of money, the collectables that are the Peter Rabbit Chronicles and of course every other great novel out there that is somewhat of a classic.
Books really are treasured items that live on; they are read by one person, then passed on to another and so on, their trails often lasting a lifetime. So you can imagine my surprise and confusion when I read the headline ‘E-book downloads outsell paperbacks’, could the oldest classic alive ‘the book’ really be on its way to the recycling plant?
Over recent weeks Amazon has announced that in the United States the the Amazon website that more E-books for Amazon’s Kindle devices have been purchased than [...]
Page Rank Update From Google
Posted by Dave Wiltshire on January, 20th 2011
Google have finally updated the PageRank on their popular toolbar much to the delight of many webmasters worldwide.
PageRank is a great indicator of how SEO is going on a website and it can be used to show webmasters Google’s “score” on each page.
Juno specifically created many landing pages on clients sites ready for the PageRank Update as they seem to rank higher once they have been assigned a PR score from zero to ten. The landing pages were all based around one keyword such as the Electric Blinds page on Controliss (which now ranks #3 in the UK).
We are still puzzled why it’s taken Google nearly a year to update the PageRank algorithm but we’re relieved to see our efforts have paid off for many clients over the past 10 months. Also some of our sites have only received PR on the [...]
Trec Nutrition – Split Testing
Posted by Dave Wiltshire on January, 18th 2011When it comes to background colours what should you chose for an online supplement store?
Our Magento ecommerce clients Trec Nutrition originally designed their website with a dark red and black background. The site’s now been split-tested with a clean white look as the different variant similar to any other generic product website.
Our web designers at at Juno know that websites that encompass hobbies and sports need a different look that say a clothing retailer or corporate site. Putting our feelings and design choices aside the SEO team knocked up a different CSS file for the white background and split tested two different CSS files rather than hack the internal code.
Here at the two resulting homepages for Trec Nutrition:

Currently we have very conclusive data [...]
5 tips to speed up page load times
Posted by Dave Wiltshire on January, 7th 2011
One of the most frustrating experiences online is when a website takes a long time to download. The average threshold of people’s patience for something to appear on the screen is now approaching around the 3 second mark due to faster internet connections and shorter attention spans.
If you own a website that makes you money then page load speeds could be costing you dearly. For every second extra it takes for your website to appear you will lose more and more visitors, a 6 second delay for example could be eating into half of your potential profits!
Moving to a better web-host is the obvious answer to speed things up, just moving from a £6/month shared server to a £30/month dedicated server will show significant improvements.
Here’s 5 more tips you may not have thought about to furthermore speed up page load times [...]
