Some of us are incredibly excited in the office, others are worried, because those with a sweet tooth are going to have to remain calm as the team work on our new client- Hancocks.

Hancocks is the UK’s leading wholesaler of confectionery- SWEETS! Hancocks was established back in 1962. Ray Hancock and his wife Liz started wholesaling confectionery from their sweet shop in Shepshed near Loughborough, Leicestershire. Their aim was to supplier local retailers and profit from purchasing sugary goods in bulk. The business as grown and moved from strength to strength with the introduction of the Internet and selling online. Now with Juno Web Design, we’re taking the next step to make purchasing smoother, optimize the site using product descriptions and SEO.

We plan to tidy things up, re-name pages to make sure they show up in search results and ultimately use Magento, which Hancocks already employ, to make an incredible e commerce store, that will knock other confectionery Wholesalers out of the water! There will be a new design, a new look and the meta data will be cleaned up. But you will still receive the best products and service from a time honoured local supplier of lovely sugary confectionery.

We’re also hoping we may get a few packets of Milk Bottles and Fried Eggs in with the bargain!

Not only are we doing all of this, we will be installing a blog so customers can have regular updates about stock and all things sweet, it also helps the site gain rankings. So we’re primed, ready and waiting, the team have their instructions and on the other side we will have created a store that provides better functionality and a better customer experience.

The only thing we’re worried about now is keeping our sweet tooth cravings under complete control!

Juno Web Design team.

Exactly as with any other marketing scheme, when you produce a blog to advertise your business, you want to keep track of your results. This will let you see how effectively blogging is functioning for you and in addition to let you see what alterations you need to make to produce a more effective blog.

Stage One: Keep Track of Your Blogging Results

The first stage in determining how well your blog is functioning as a marketing tool is to measure your blog’s potency:

Keep track of other blog references. A blogroll pertains to the practice of linking up with like-minded blog pages from one article. Just as you’ll want to link to other blogs from your blog, so others might choose to offer a link to your blog. This kind of linking assures more hits and assures that your blog will strand higher in rankings – very much like a much-quoted web page will acquire high rankings in google.

Keep track of all internet acknowledgments. You shouldn’t just look at acknowledgments of your blog in other blogs. Keep track of where your company name and blog name appears online – in forums, web pages, and in publishings. What kind of publicity are you getting for your blog and your company? Has there been a different reaction to your business since you began the blog?

Do some marketing research. Ask your clients where they heard of you and why they selected you. Ask your clients and readers to grade your blog. The answers may be very revealing.

Count hits. Dependent on your blog software, you may be able to count how many people view your blog. This can be a crucial way to measure how many people you’re reaching. If your bloging software has no function for counting traffic then check out Google Analytics.

Place your blog in context. Look at your other marketing and advertising strategies. Liken the amount of time and money you spend on your marketing campaigns – and the results you get from each effort.

Stage Two: Make Your Results more beneficial

When you’ve looked at how your blog is impacting your business, you should be able to see what needs to be done. If your blog isn’t acquiring enough hits, try promoting your blog more through online groups, emails, and links. If the response to your blog isn’t great, then you may need to make some alterations in content and style to entice in more readers.

If you find that your blog isn’t acquiring the results you want, though, be sure that you have given the blog a chance. Do realize that it takes longer to build a solid patriotic audience with a blog than with other forms of marketing. If you do build a steady audience, though, the promotional potential of your blog will be quite high.

Name one person that doesn’t like to share his or her point of view, and you will have just named nobody at all. The point of the above exercise is to show the simple fact that everyone likes to talk about themselves, and what they are up to, even if they say that they do not like doing so.

There is something about being human that makes us self involved to the point where we truly feel as if others want, or need to know what is going on with us. Blogs offer one a unique way to express his or her feelings on any number of issues, with a shield that only the internet can provide.

The most common use of a blog is that of a journal, or an opinionated piece of writing involving some aspect of the author’s day to day life. While some blogs are totally commercially driven, they are often masked as personal musing in order to entice visitors. This is something that just can’t be avoided, people love checking out other peoples blogs to see what’s going on.

The internet can be a cold and bare place for people to be at times, and the blog helps create a sense of community with its powerful reach, and ease of use. Many people want to share, or keep up with others, but simply don’t have time. Email has gotten to the point that people are overwhelmed just to deal with their regular inbox each day, nonetheless an email from an old friend, and thus checking someone’s blog is commonplace nowadays. In fact, there are millions of blogs out there, and most of them are intended to be read by family and friends.

Blogging is popular because it relates to community, family, and friends, and therefore it is in direct relation with what matters most in life. Blogs can be a powerful tool to communicate to others, as well as to market with, as they are so friendly to search engines in terms of keywords, and ranking. Just making a few blog posts can literally get you noticed immediately, and is something that truly can help you become a big player in the internet business game.

WordPress plugins are small pieces of code that extend the functionality of wordpress. There are many thousands of wordpress plugins in the wordpress community and plugins are being produced day-to-day by developers and wordpress lovers around the world.

Here are the 3 plugins that I use at almost all of my blogs. WordPress can in addition to be used as a CMS to power niche websites.

Sitemap generator plugin for wordpress

This plugin produces a sitemap for the blog. A sitemap is a web page that lists all the pages and posts of the website/blog. SEs can index all the pages and posts of your blog by tracing the links on the sitemap. It also assists in passing “link love” to older posts of your blog. Additionally, a sitemap can also be a great way of channelising stray visitors (for instance: by offering a link on 404 pages to the sitemap).

A few of the characteristics of this plugin include:

support for multi-level categories and pages

category/page exclusion

multiple-page generation with navigation

permalink support

choose what to display

what order to list items in

show comment counts and/or post dates

All in one SEO pack

This plugin optimises wordpress for SEs.

Here are the characteristics of the all in one SEO pack:

Page titles: You can adjust the titles of the pages/posts and the homepage. If you include the right keywords in the title tag, your site will obviously perform better in search engines.

Duplicate content: This plugin makes the categories and archives “no follow”, thus avoiding the duplicate content penalty.

Meta tags: This plugin makes it possible to add meta tags i.e. description and keywords to the posts and pages of your wordpress blog. Though Google doesn’t read meta tags, search engines like Yahoo! and Live give prominence to meta tags. So use them!

OIOpublisher

OIOpublisher is an ad platform with a focus on performance, control and ease of use. Serve advertising on your blog or website and keep 100% of the revenue you bring in. Also during January they are offering 90% commission on affiliate sales.

The other great thing about this plugin is that it can also used on other websites not just blogs.

Sponsored review programs, or paid review programs, are another extremely popular way to earn money with your blog posts. I use sponsored review programs to earn money and to get ideas for new, quality, content when writers block creeps up on me. These programs allow blog owners to sign up, register their blog, and then review a variety of websites. Each review usually consists of a neutral, or positive, overview of the website paying for the review, along with up to three links to the sponsors’ website. Some of the most popular paid to review programs are:

Blogvertise: http://www.blogsvertise.com
Blogger Wave: http://www.bloggerwave.com
Blog Ads: http://bloggingads.com
Blog to Profit: http://www.blogtoprofit.com
Link Worth: http://www.linkworth.com
Linky Love Army: http://www.linkylovearmy.com
Loud Launch: http://www.loudlaunch.com
Pay Per Post: http://www.payperpost.com
Review Me: http://www.reviewme.com
Sponsored Reviews: http://sponsoredreviews.com/

These programs are all a great source of revenue paying bloggers anywhere from $5.00 to $500.00 per review. Those blogs that are established with steady traffic are going to make more money per review than a smaller, new bog. This is a great money maker for those blog owners who are only hoping to pay for hosting aka break even. However, you have a great blog and time to post you can make an impressive income with these programs. I make, on average, $100 per week with paid review opportunities.

Currently my favorite programs to use are Payu2Blog, Sponsored Review, and Blogitive. They all offer a steady source of income, especially during certain times of year. During the holiday season I easily made $50.00 per day using these programs, and all of the products and sites being reviewed interested my readers. Essentially I got paid to provide great information

Sponsored Reviews is the highest paying of the sites that I write paid reviews for, but that is because there is often a great deal of effort that goes into creating each review. The advertisers place their requests on the sites marketplace and each reviewer bids for the assignment. Usually the advertiser rejects or accepts the bid in a matter of days. The advertiser show’s what they are willing to pay for the review, which can be anywhere from $5.00 to $200.00. Sponsored Reviews takes a percentage of this payment and sends the rest to the reviewer via Paypal.

Blogging through your web design is becoming an increasingly popular way for entrepreneurs to earn a living online while doing something they really enjoy. In many cases review blogs can profit with very little effort. There may be quite a bit of work involved in the beginning with designing a method of gaining revenue and promoting the website but once this is established simply maintaining the blog with regular postings may be enough to keep the revenue rolling in.

Two of the most popular methods for generating a profit from blogging include advertising methods. This includes advertising with AdSense and securing independent advertisers. This article will discuss these two methods of advertising on a blog.

Using AdSense to Generate Revenue

Using AdSense is one of the most popular ways for a making a review blog to generate revenue from their blog. This method is so popular because it is also very simple. AdSense is a program offered by Google where bloggers agree to have advertisements on their website and are compensated when users click on these advertisements. Bloggers simply have to create a blog and submit the website address of the blog as well as some other information to apply for participation in AdSense.

Once a blog is approved the owner is given code they can simply copy and paste to have advertisements displayed on their blog. Google then serves appropriate advertisements each time the blog is accessed. Whenever possible, the advertisements served on the blog are closely related to the content of the blog because Google crawls the website ahead of time to determine which advertisements are relevant to the content.

Blog owners do have some ability to place restrictions on the types of advertisements which may appear on the blog. For example the blog owner can specify adult advertisements are not to appear on the blog and Google will filter these out.

How Advertisements on a Blog Generate Revenue

review blogs use advertisements on their blogs to generate a profit. This method of advertising is more difficult than using AdSense but it can be significantly more financially beneficial to the blogger. This method of advertising is similar to the type of targeted advertising often seen in magazines.

For example magazines for parents often feature advertisements which will appeal to parents such as advertisements for toys, children’s clothing or foods popular with children. Likewise a magazine for runners may feature advertisements for shoes, athletic clothing, races or training equipment. In these cases the advertisers pay for advertising space in the magazine in the hopes that the magazine’s audience will be enticed to purchase products or services after seeing these advertisements.

Blog owners can use this type of advertising but it can be hard to find willing advertisers. However, there are some factors which may make an advertiser more willing to have an advertisement appear on a blog. One of the most important factors for advertisers is the amount of traffic the blog receives. This is important because advertisers who are paying for ad space are more likely to invest in a blog with high traffic than one with very little traffic.

Another important factor for advertisers is the focus of the blog. Advertisers are more likely to purchase advertising space from a blog with a specific focus of interest to the advertiser’s target audience. Like the examples listed previously of magazines for parents and runners, advertisers want to advertise on a blog which is already reaching the same target audience.

Bloggers who utilize advertising on their website may be compensated in a number of different ways. Some advertisers may pay a set fee for the advertisement to run on the website for either a set amount of time or for a set number of page views. This means the advertiser may purchase space for a set number of days, weeks or months or may purchase space for a set number of times the advertisement is served to website visitors.

Alternately the advertiser may choose to compensate the blogger according to the number of times specific actions occur. This may include users clicking through the advertisement or users making a purchase after clicking through the advertisement. The type of compensation offered will have to be worked out between the blogger and advertiser beforehand to determine a fair method of payment.

More and more of my I.M. colleagues and indeed new people that I meet on line are `getting into blogging’. And why not? Blogs are relatively easy to produce and use, no matter which platform you choose, and they can be a brilliant tool for internet marketers.

However, no matter how easy they are to install and use, and no matter how helpful they can be to your business, the one thing that I’ve noticed more frequently is that many people are neglecting the security of their blogs.

Now I’m actually talking in particular about WordPress blogs here. Yes, I have used Blogger blogs in the past, and I know that many people swear by them, but I found Blogger a bit too restricitive for my liking (though I understand that things have changed a lot at Blogger since I first used them).

Because WordPress is an open source blogging tool, meaning that it’s free and available to everyone, it’s a prime target for hackers and ne’er-do-wells. Of course, the WordPress development team are tireless in constantly working on the script for our benefit, but none of this is any use if we don’t actually get up off our backsides and do a bit of work on our blogs behind the scenes.

It’s par for the course to worry about your blog theme, your next blog post, your readership, attracting subscribers to your RSS feed etc. etc., but do you actually think very much about your blog’s security?

I suppose that I might perhaps see more WordPress blog security problems than most, being in the hosting business. Did you know that probably the biggest cause of server compromisation is actually people who install WordPress blogs and other open source scripts and don’t keep them up-to-date with the latest versions and patches?

Hackers find it easy to search around, find a way in through an old script, hack your blog, access your email accounts, start sending viagra and cure for baldness spam emails `from you’ and generally get up to all kinds of nasty things.

I can’t tell you how many panicky emails I’ve had to answer from people who’ve logged into their blog one day and have been smacked in the face by a skull and cross bones proudly proclaiming that their carefully crafted, lovingly nurtured blog has been hacked by Hound Dog Horris the Hardcore Hacker!! Great!

So I’ve put together a few suggestions that you might like to implement to help keep your WordPress blog safe.

Keep Up-to-Date

First of all, the most obvious fix is to ensure that you keep your blog up-to-date with the latest version released by WordPress.

Most WordPress blogs display a little warning in the Dashboard that tells you when a new version is released and a link for you to click to download it. If yours doesn’t, then it’s worth checking the WordPress website fairly regularly for updates. They also invite you to sign up for email notification of updates.

If you feel a bit daunted installing updates via FTP, or you installed your blog initially using Fantastico in your cPanel, so are not sure how to install the updates, WordPress offer quite a good set of instructions for this.

Plugins

It’s a good idea to hide the list of plugins you are using. Any known vulnerabilities and bugs that may occur in some plugins can be used as tools to harm your website.

Check out your blog, now… yourdomain.com/wp-content/plugins

The chances are, you will see the full directory of all of your blog plugins, and in some cases, the date they were installed.

To hide your plugins, simply create an index.html file and upload it to the wp-admin/plugins folder. This index file can be blank or you can be really creative and add some promotions to it.

Another way that Hound Dog Hacker uses to determine whether your blog is furtile ground for hacking is to check which WordPress version you’re using.

So, if you’re one of those that has put upgrading on the back burner, then you could be announcing that you’re ripe for a hack harvest with a huge magaphone!

How so? Well, go to your blog… go on.. open a new tab in your browser and type in your blog’s url. Then right click on your blog with your mouse and select View Source, View Page Source, or similar, from the drop down menu.

Check out the coding….. about 10-12 lines down, you will see something like this

< meta name=”generator” content=”WordPress 2.6.3″ / >

< meta content=”WordPress 2.6.3″ name=”generator” />

Obviously the 2.6.3 version is the latest version as I’m writing this article today, and your one, hopefully, tells you the latest version on the day you check your code. However, there’s a possibility that you’ve not updated your version and an old version is showing. Naughty, naughty! Talk about dipping your cut finger in shark infested water and inviting all the sharks for a slap up meal!!! Slight exaggeration, there, but I’m sure you get what I mean?

Why advertise that you’ve been a bit too busy to update your blog to the latest version, or that that upgrade keeps get shoved down your list of things to do?

I’ve been using an excellent plugin by David Kierznowski, which removes the display of your WordPress version to prevent attacks. Check out your blog… do the right mouse click and then view source code.

The plugin is merely one small .php file that you upload to your plugins folder, and then activate it in the usual way in the plugins section of your Dashboard.

Block Access

A folder that Hound Dog Hacker likes to have a good old nosy around on your blog is your wp-admin folder – this is the storage place for all your blog’s most sensitive data. So here’s a quick tip to secure this directory…

Open notepad or wordpad on your computer, and add the following code:-

AuthUserFile /dev/null

AuthGroupFile /dev/null

AuthName “Access Control”

AuthType Basic

order deny, allow

deny from all

allow from TYPE YOUR IP ADDRESS HERE

If you don’t know your IP address, you can find it here whatismyipaddress.com

Next, save your txt file as .htaccess and then upload it to your wp-admin folder.

NOTE: This method might be a pain in the neck for you if you don’t have a static IP address, however, if you are with an internet service provider that has a range, you can add the range.

I have to say that my IP address isn’t static BUT, I’ve only had to add extra IP addresses twice in the past 6 months or so, to allow me to login.

I did wonder why, when I went to my blog login page whilst on my laptop that I was denied access… doh, then I realised that my .htaccess file was denying me access from this computer. I now keep the .htaccess file on my desktop and just add an IP address, if and when it changes, to the file and upload it in seconds. So your file might look something like this

AuthUserFile /dev/null

AuthGroupFile /dev/null

AuthName “Access Control”

AuthType Basic

order deny,allow

deny from all

allow from TYPE YOUR IP ADDRESS HERE

allow from TYPE YOUR IP ADDRESS HERE

allow from TYPE YOUR IP ADDRESS HERE

I hope this has helped give you some ideas, or at least galvanized you into taking a closer look at your blog security.

1. What is CPA Marketing?

CPA marketing is the process of joining a cost per action program, sending visitors to the merchant’s landing page and being compensated for the number of users that take the agreed action.

2. What are the advantages of CPA Marketing?

The main advantage is that you get compensated per action rather than per sale.

Another advantage is that it’s easier than running an online store – i.e. you don’t have to store inventory, have a credit card processing facility and ship products.

3. What is the difference between CPA and Affiliate Marketing?

With affiliate marketing affiliates are compensated per sale.

With CPA marketing members are compensated per action – the action could be signing up to a newsletter or completing an online form.

However, you would advertise both affiliate programs and CPA offers the same way.

4. Where is the Best Place to Find CPA Offers?

The best place to find CPA offers is at a CPA directory/ network.

5. What are the Best CPA Directories?

The best CPA directories are as follows:

PrimaryAds.com

AzoogleAds.com

DarkBlue.com

AffiliateFuel.com

BulletAds.com

6. How do I know which are the best CPA offers?

You’ll never know until you test and track an offer.

The helpful CPA directories allocate each affiliate an Affiliate Manager, with access to this person’s email and phone number. A great way to find out what the best CPA offers are is to contact your Affiliate Manager.

Most CPA directories send out a newsletter which tells you what their new and recommended offers are.

7. What are the Best Ways to advertise CPA offers?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Pay Per Click Advertising (PPC)

8. Where Can I Find Out More About SEO and PPC?

If you have an online business with a sophisticated web site, you are probably deciding what type of server you need for your business. The server is what actually hosts your website online. It provides you space on the internet and routes traffic to your website. There are two types of servers you can use when deciding what type of hosting you want for your internet website. A shared server is most popular with small business websites and individual websites. The other type of server is a dedicated server. The advantages of using a shared server are as follows:- Some of them are free;- Some of them offer templates that allow you to create a website with little computer knowledge;- Shared servers offer a variety of different services;- Even paid shared servers are relatively inexpensive and have a variety of different plans.Shared servers are the best option for small businesses or personal websites on the internet. Some shared servers, especially the free ones, will want to put mandatory ads on your website. This is how they pay for their website. Other services allow you to put your own ads on your website, increasing your revenue.Shared servers, however, are not ideal for large businesses. Because you share the server with other websites, the bandwidth may have a problem with directing your traffic to your website if it becomes too heavy. If you are getting thousands of visitors a day, the bandwidth may not be able to keep up; leaving some of your customers in the dark.In addition, there is a limited amount of space for most shared servers. A dedicated server is the best option for a growing or large internet business. Not only does it free up the bandwidth so that customers are no longer left out in the cold, but it also increases your space size.  This is especially important if your business has forums or shopping carts. These are called databases and tend to take up a lot of space.Although a dedicated server costs substantially more to get started than a shared server, for the building businesses there really is no choice. If you want your internet business to grow, there is really no option but to choose a dedicated server. Some dedicated servers can cost as little as $100 per month. This tends to be more costly than a shared server, but he difference in cost will soon make up for itself. In addition to virtually hosting your own website, you will also be able to incorporate as many ads and affiliates as you want on your website. This can also bring you in extra revenue. With your own dedicated server, there is no limit as to how you can grow your business. You can even get affiliates on your websites that relate to your business. There are all sorts of ways to make money online and most of them include advertising of some sort. With your own dedicated server, you can put all the ads on that you want and thus earn more profit on your website.
