Boom in ‘silver surfer’ e commerce
Posted by Dave Wiltshire on January, 30th 2012In recent news, Silver Surfers are the biggest group to shop online by a whopping 86%.
Over a third regularly shop on the web. Strangely, those aged 25-34 are least likely to shop online with 13% stating that they never use the Internet to purchase goods. Quite surprising, as this age group tends to be the target for many brands, as they have more disposable income.

Brits tend to shop online for an average of 2.4 hours a week, rather than 1.2 hours on the high street. Despite the increased time spent on the internet, the average spend is a little lower than on the high street. Men seem to be the biggest online spenders. These trends seem to skew the traditional way in which advertisers thought people spent. Traditionally, it would tend to be the females as the decision makers, when it [...]

Page Rank Update From Google
Posted by Dave Wiltshire on January, 20th 2011
Google have finally updated the PageRank on their popular toolbar much to the delight of many webmasters worldwide.
PageRank is a great indicator of how SEO is going on a website and it can be used to show webmasters Google’s “score” on each page.
Juno specifically created many landing pages on clients sites ready for the PageRank Update as they seem to rank higher once they have been assigned a PR score from zero to ten. The landing pages were all based around one keyword such as the Electric Blinds page on Controliss (which now ranks #3 in the UK).
We are still puzzled why it’s taken Google nearly a year to update the PageRank algorithm but we’re relieved to see our efforts have paid off for many clients over the past 10 months. Also some of our sites have only received PR on the [...]

Deep linking into subpages
Posted by Dave Wiltshire on June, 11th 2010
When performing SEO on your website are you just simply linking to your website’s main page?
Every backlink you create for your website adds power to whichever page it links to; backlinking just to your homepage may seem to be the best idea to many people but it isn’t the best way to traffic.
If you links to subpages on your site then these pages too have backlink power. The beauty of subpages on your site is that they can be targeted to one specific subject making them a lot more likely to rank in search engines such as Google when someone types in a related keyword.
Your homepage may mention many different areas of what your business has to offer, lets say for example you sold sports equipment, you could have many differently themed pages on ‘football’, ‘cricket’, ‘tennis’ etc.
The homepage of this website [...]
SEO Myth Debunked – NoFollow Links May Still Add Value to SEO
Posted by Dave Wiltshire on June, 8th 2010If your SEO strategy does not include NoFollow links, you might need to rethink your strategy. You see, various SEO e-books caution online marketers about “NoFollow” links being useless to SEO. This is a myth that is being perpetuated by antiquated SEO e-books that misinform their readers.
This myth did have some solid basis before. Years ago, Google introduced the NoFollow tag to prevent blog spammers from getting backlinks when they comment on blogs. WordPress followed suit by implementing the NoFollow tag on their comment links. This discourages people from spamming blogs with useless content.
The self-proclaimed SEO “gurus” then devised a way to go around this new Google rule. They advised millions of people to look for “DoFollow” blogs. According to these “gurus,” you can get precious backlinks from these blogs even if you don’t include useful content on your web sites.
Websites also used to add [...]
Blowtorches – ecommerce research begins
Posted by Dave Wiltshire on January, 6th 2010We are scheduling an ecommerce web design and SEO project for February this year focusing on selling gas items including blowtorches. The proposed site will retail blowtorch products and accessories including propane and butane refills.
Blow torches are tools used in all industries for a range of purposes from cutting and joining metal to browning cakes in the kitchen. Blowtorches are not a seasonal item and sell all year round. Its an exiting project this one as it is a more obscure and less mainstream product. To find out whther it sells online there is really only one way to find out. We will be pushing this one in the search engines and producing a cool web design to increase the likelihood of sale.
A quick note too. We have recently got well into photography for our ecommerce projects and it will be on display shortly [...]
