Separate sites for mobiles?

For years, designers and developers have been back and fourth over the subject of websites for mobile phones, and should we create separate sites to support smaller devices?

Prior to responsive design, users accessing the internet online through a mobile device were probably viewing actual full web sites on the internet. This tended to slow down devices, not show all the options, not move, scroll or click through quickly.

Some people do believe in creating a separate site for mobile users. We can see the point in that, you want to be able to access something that you recognize is the site you’re visiting and that site needs to be as functional through your mobile, as it is through a PC.

Problems that occur when creating separate sites are the consistency of design, some products or services may be missing from the [...]

Adobe CS6: Dreamweaver

Every now and then we see a rush of evolution in terms of technology and solutions. Take screen sizes for instance. We have desktop PCs such as Macs, which are continuing to grow and grow, we have slimline laptops, we have tablets and of course, we have smart phones. All providing a different size screen and resolution. This makes websites incredibly difficult to view, if they haven’t been created with a responsive theme.

Here is where Adobe CS6: Dreamweaver steps up to the mark. Many clients will expect designers to produce versions for mobile and other devices, and CS6 is perfect for that. The new fluid grid layout provides a basic structure for a website which can be created with three different sizes. These include ‘mobile’ (480px), ‘tablet’ (768px) and ‘desktop’ (1232px). In  the actual programme, you can switch between Live [...]

New build your own tool aimed at designers

There are literally hundreds of sites online offering basic and professional website tools, enabling everyday people to create websites that look the part, but are they really any good? Will these simple step by step tools knock bespoke web design out of the market? We don’t believe so, but we do realise it is a good platform to create cheap decent looking site, for those with little or no budget.

In recent news another one of these “build your own” companies has provided a tool purely aimed at website designers.

Breezi has recently created a system aimed at designers and creatives, which will make the process of creating a website a lot easier and fun to work with. Sites can be up and running in a jiffy, but include much more professional tools, widgets and plug-ins. Breezi prides itself in [...]

Static or Dynamic?

Where do you sit in the great Static and Dynamic website debacle? What is the difference between static and dynamic sites? What are the pros and cons?

Today Juno Web Design take a look into the world of web design and the evolution of site structure.

You can generally spot a static site a mile off, they tend to be very basic sites, perfect for small companies to deliver information, without all the song and dance that you might find on a dynamic site. Generally, static sites can only be kept up to date by developers or users who know exactly what to do in terms of coding. Static sites are relatively cheap to produce and host.

The pros of using static sites are:

Cost- Cheap to create and host
Time- Quick to develop

The downsides to Static design are:

Expertise- Need a developer [...]

Responsive Web Design

Thank goodness it’s Friday, this week has been a big challenge for the Juno team, with new issues arising, but we’ve pulled together and overcome. The positive from this particular week is our move into Responsive Web Design, which we are particularly excited about.

What is Responsive Web Design?

It’s basically a way in which we can develop a site which automatically detects the screen resolution on a device and re-sizes to that particular device. So, if you are using a Smart phone or a tablet, you may find some sites look terrible and don’t load properly, with responsive design, these problems don’t exist as the site re-sizes to the relative size, offering all the important information for the user, it still runs quickly and it allows companies to be on the move and drive more customers through to their sites.

This [...]
