Public Relations – Change in the Digital Age

Public Relations, It’s gotta change.

More companies are waking up to the digital age and using PR agencies to optimise social media to get their company’s names out into the market and target consumers. Public Relations tend to lend itself to engaging with users online and therefore is a very successful practice. Despite this, the way we perform public relations may have to change with the ever-expanding digital scene.

Having quality writing skills is possibly the most important factor when it comes to creating engaging online content, whether you’re in marketing or Public Relations. Users are lured by interesting content, sites that are visually pleasing and allow users to interact and feel like they’ve had a positive experience.

Audience insights are an incredibly powerful tool. Companies can determine whether what they’ve been working on and creating is successful. Insights can also show where there is a lack of audience, maybe it’s a part of a company website, maybe it’s a link hosted on another site. Utilising data and statistics can improve the way companies work with Public Relations.

In previous years, there were 3 main marketing strategies, now with the growth of the digital ages the disciplines have merged, and in the past PR ran on its own away from everything else, but now it is integrated into everything else that runs in terms of marketing and social media. Although we try to move forward, it can be a powerful tool to remember which discipline plays which part, we don’t want to have jobs merging in with one another, or we can all end up being Marketing, social media PR gurus.
