Static or Dynamic?

Where do you sit in the great Static and Dynamic website debacle? What is the difference between static and dynamic sites? What are the pros and cons?

Today Juno Web Design take a look into the world of web design and the evolution of site structure.

You can generally spot a static site a mile off, they tend to be very basic sites, perfect for small companies to deliver information, without all the song and dance that you might find on a dynamic site. Generally, static sites can only be kept up to date by developers or users who know exactly what to do in terms of coding. Static sites are relatively cheap to produce and host.

The pros of using static sites are:

Cost- Cheap to create and host
Time- Quick to develop

The downsides to Static design are:

Expertise- Need a developer to update the site
Content- If not updated can become boring
User- Not that exciting to use, but content is delivered

Dynamic sites are the flip side of the coin, offering a wealth of exciting tools to the user and the site manager. Dynamic sites allow the clients to update their own site through a central point, which makes updating, inputting information, products and content, a whiz.

The positive features of dynamic websites are:

Functionality- Much better
Updates- easier to manage
Content- refreshed, helps site rankings and traffic
Ease- a system that numerous people can use

The negative features of Dynamic design are:

Cost- Dynamic sites are more expensive to produce and host
Time- Can take a while to load

Both structures have their pros and cons, there is no limit to creativity and this doesn't mean to say that a static site would be completely boring.

With clever ideas, keeping content engaging and designs fresh, your site should command a great presence online.
